Powerlifting meet

It wasn’t the greatest, it also wasn’t terrible.

I’ll post videos probably tomorrow in the evening of my best lifts.

I lifted about as well as I thought I would, which is still well under what I should have, but I still broke most of the state raw records, and got 2nd overall.

I felt like I had no energy, or I had energy but my body just wouldn’t let me use it.

Best lifts:

  • Squat : 402.75lbs, was my second attempt, and it went up slow but I knew I’d get it.
  • Bench : 275lbs, was my opener, felt fine. Then I went for 281 and the fucker held my pause for 2 seconds and there was no way I was getting it off my chest. I definitely should have done better on this, but oh well.
  • Deadlift : 463lbs, third lift. By the time I started warming up for deads, I thought I was going to pass out. Even just doing 405 I thought I was gonna fall over, so I dropped my opener from 445 to 420lbs, which I ended up getting pretty easily. I feel like I shouldn’t have underestimated here, but I was more worried I’d bomb out if I opened at 445, so I ended up cutting myself short. The 463 for a final definitely felt like I could have added another 20 lbs to it.

I knew going into it that it wasn’t going to be pretty, but I’m thankful for what I did get, and I’m glad I didn’t bomb out. I placed second by 5lbs behind the guy that’s run the Kansas USAPL federation for 15 years, and has held several state records (that still stand) and competed nationally his entire life. If it wasn’t for his 507lb deadlift, I would have won easily. But for being 53 years old, that man can still deadlift lol, and I’ll  gladly lose to him.

Looking forward, I’ve got alot of squatting to do. I also need to work on longer pauses on bench. If I can get 300+ with a 2 second pause, I’ll definitely feel good going into nationals. I need to get back into deadlifting once a week, even if it’s mostly <80%. I also need to stay strong mentally for the next few months, so I can make the most out of this opportunity.

In the gym I’ve put up 420/310/500, and my goal for nationals will be to add a little bit to that squat, and 15lbs to that deadlift. I’d be happy with that.
